BDesh Foundation along with several hospitals in the private and non-government sectors have partnered with international organizations to address avoidable blindness in Bangladesh. We are also working to support the government in the development of an eye care sector.
The challenge we face is that 80% of visually impaired people in Bangladesh live in rural areas where the treatment facilities are very poor and unfortunately 90% of the doctors and paramedics are urban-based.
Currently BDesh Foundation is working with Vision Eye Hospital and Bangladesh Eye Care Society to implement an ongoing Eye Care Program. To accomplish this – BDesh Foundation conducts “eye camps” throughout the country especially in the remote rural villages. Our team identifies the patients who need cataract surgery and other advanced eye treatments. The patients are then transported to a nearby BDesh affiliated hospital for the correct procedure.
